Frequently Asked Questions
Which items should be PAT tested?
The Code of Practice for In-service Inspection and Testing of Electrical Equipment (as provided by The Institution of Electrical Engineers) gives detailed specifications but the following is a selection of electrical appliances that need PAT testing:
Kettle, microwave, toaster, food mixer, lamp, vacuum cleaner, fan heater, electric fire, moveable air conditioning unit, hair dryer, drill, electric screwdriver, soldering iron, refrigerator, washing machine, bathroom heater, heated towel rail, electric cooker, computer, computer monitor, printer, plotter, shredder, mail processing machine, electric typewriter, photocopier, power supply and extension lead.
As a very general statement most electrical items with a plug need PAT testing, but it is not possible or practical to provide an exhaustive list.
